Postdoctoral Opportunity in Small Angle Neutron Scattering Research at Oak Ridge National Laboratory Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) (http://www.ornl.gov) invites applications for a postdoctoral opening in small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) research. The ORNL SANS facilities are located at the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR), which operates at 85 MW with a neutron flux > 1015 neutrons/cm2/sec. Upgrades currently in progress include the addition of a cold neutron source and the construction of two state-of-the-art SANS facilities. There is an active inhouse scientific program and the topics addressed include polymer blends, neutral and charged polymer solutions, supercritical fluids as well as other aspects of polymer science and chemistry. One position is open immediately and the successful candidate will participate in ongoing work on these topics, particularly studies of the self-assembly of charged polymers in solution. Primary efforts will center on the application of SANS and other techniques (e.g., light scattering) to elucidate nanoscale structure in polyelectrolyte solutions. The ideal candidate should have experience with either neutron or x-ray scattering measurements, a familiarity with polymers and computer programming expertise. Applications will be evaluated on a continuing basis and competitive salaries and benefits are offered. Please reference the position title and number (ORNL02-25-SANS), when corresponding about this position. Interested candidates should contact: Dr. George Wignall: (865-5745237, "gdw@ornl.gov") Dr. Yuri B. Melnichenko: (865-574-7746; "yui@ornl.gov") Mike Simonson: (865-5744962; "simonsonjm@ornl.gov"). This appointment will be offered through the ORNL Postdoctoral Research Associates Program (http://www.orau.gov/orise/edu/ornl/ornl-pd/ornlpdoc.htm). The program is open to all qualified U.S. and non-U.S. citizens without regard to race, color, age, religion, sex, national origin, physical or mental disability, or status as a Vietnam-era veteran or disabled veteran.
