*************************** Subject: Prospects for institutional e-print repositories study The ePrints UK project is producing a series of four supporting studies that will cover a range of issues of interest to the development of institutional repositories. The first one of these, an impact assessment report, is now available as: Michael Day, "Prospects for institutional e-print repositories in the United Kingdom," ePrints UK supporting study, no. 1, v. 1.0 (28 May 2003). http://www.rdn.ac.uk/projects/eprints-uk/docs/studies/impact/ *************************** Subject: Cost of the Divine/RoweCom affair to ACS The July 7 issue of Chemical and Engineering News says the cost of the affair (bankruptcy, non-payment of publishers for journal subscriptions) to the American Chemical Society for 2003, will be of the order of $2.5 million. Some of this may be recovered later if there is any dividend from the bankruptcy. *************************** Subject: New ALPSP Report ICSTI Member ALPSP has recently published a report entitled "Scholarly Publishing Practice: the ALPSP report on academic journal publishers' policies and practices in online publishing" The report is the result of a survey of 275 publishers, of which 183 responded; 149 responses were valid and included in the analysis. A copy of the Executive Summary can be downloaded from the ALPSP site - www.alpsp.org. I also have a full copy of the report for those who are interested. *************************** Subject: Literature Review of 'alternative' STI publishing The National Science Foundation Division of Science Resources Statistics has posted "The Implications of Information Technology for Scientific Journal Publishing: A Literature Review" (NSF 03-323) by Amy Friedlander and R=C3=A4ndi S. Bessette at http://www.nsf.gov/sbe/srs/nsf03323/htmstart.htm Paper copies may be requested at http://www.nsf.gov/pubs/ (scroll down to "Need paper copies?"). *************************** -- Best wishes Peter Strickland Managing Editor IUCr Journals ---------------------------------------------------------------------- IUCr Editorial Office, 5 Abbey Square, Chester CH1 2HU, England Phone: 44 1244 342878 Fax: 44 1244 314888 Email: ps@iucr.org Ftp: ftp.iucr.org WWW: http://journals.iucr.org/ NEWSFLASH: Complete text of all IUCr journals back to 1948 now online!
