Both ask authors to transfer copyright to them as publisher, but permit authors to deposit papers at the freely available ArXve 'web-library' run from Los Alamos. ( They also permit authors to deposit papers at their own Web Home Pages). Thus the papers are completely freely and permanently available on the Web. Indeed both provide links between references in a published paper and material deposited on the Los Alamos site. Both state that doing these things has, as yet, had no identified bad effect on journal sales.
