A case very relevant to the ICSTI community: CRC against Wolfram Research :
23th of October 2000 the court closed what was considered by researchers
(at least here) as the best site on the internet Math World. See
(http://mathworld.wolfram.com/). Links to the legal documents during the
suit are also given on that site. The CRC webpage
http://www.crcpress.com/us/ gives only a link to the 20-page Court Order
Shutting Down MathWorld. Although the legal wording in that document is not
always easy to understand it is clear that copyright transfer and all its
implications will have to be spelled out much more clearly for the
scientists publishing "books".that they first compiled and kept updated on
the web.
