Dear ICSTI Members,

As part of the follow-up to the review of the Open Archival Information
Systems Reference Model for digital archiving which was done at the Columbus
meeting, I contacted Don Sawyer from the committee who drafted the standard.
He indicated that ISO has still not released the draft, but they are hopeful
it will be out by the end of June. They have requested a shorter than
average review period, basically July and August, but nothing is finalized
yet.

One of the comments at the Columbus meeting focused on the fact that when
this standard comes to the individual countries for review, it may not be
reviewed by all those who would be interested in such a broad based standard.
It could simply be reviewed by the spatial data community and not by the
library and information science folks. I mentioned this to Don and attached
below is his response.

This type of concern has been one of ours also. We will try to get it
submitted to ISO TC46 (library), and to ISO JTC1, for comment as well.
If any of your colleagues have other ISO communities in mind, let us
know.

Do any of you have other ISO communities you would like to suggest?

I will have more information later concerning the date for any final comments
from ICSTI members who were in Columbus for the discussion or any others who
have take the time to review. Remember that the current draft is available
at ssdoo.gsfc.nasa.gov/nost/isoas/ref_model.html

Thank you,

Gail Hodge
