Date & Location March 13, 2000 American Chemical Society Othmer Building 1550 M Street, NW Washington, DC 20036 Program 10:00 a.m. Opening Remarks 10:00 - 11:30 CASE LAW "Recent Decisions and the Implications for Database Publishing" By Eric Schwartz, Partner, Smith & Metalitz Mr. Schwartz will discuss the most recent case law including cases resulting from the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. 11:45- 1:00 LEGISLATION "The Digital Millennium Copyright Act: What Does It Mean?" Marybeth Peters, Registrar of Copyrights, Library of Congress Ms. Peters will report on the status of Distance Education recommendations currently being considered as an extension to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. She will also discuss what the Copyright Office is doing with regard to allowable circumvention of technological protection of data. "Update on Database Protection Legislation" Bonnie Lawlor, Chair, NFAIS Information Policy Committee Ms. Lawlor will provide an update on the status of legislation relating to the protection of databases. Mr. Mirchin will focus on the aspect of shrink-wrap/click-wrap licenses with regard to UCITA.
