******** Welcome to the ECACOMSIG Mailing list ****** The initial setup of the ECA Computing SIG was organized by Davide Viterbo. At the ECA Meeting in Nancy, three people volunteered to be members of the first ECA COMSIG Computing Commission. Ton Spek (ECA Computing SIG Chairman) a.l.spek@chem.uu.nl Alexandre Urzhumtsev (ECA Computing SIG Secretary) sacha@lcm3b.u-nancy.fr Lachlan Cranswick (ECA Computing SIG Deputy Chairman) l.cranswick@dl.ac.uk One of the main tasks of the computing commission will be involvement in the organisation of the program of half-day computing sessions at forthcoming ECA meetings. Preliminary plans in that respect for the forthcoming ECA-2001 meeting in Krakow include: 1 - A halfday session, mainly addressing computing issues of special interest for workers outside the macromolecular domain. 2 - A halfday session, addressing macromolecular computing issues. 3 - A halfday session on the combined issue computing & teaching It is intended that session 1, 2 & 3 are not in parallel sothat there should be no conflicts of interest for that reason for people wishing to learn from all three sessions. Note: It is not yet clear whether the 'computing & teaching session' will be organised together with the teaching sig ? The main issue now is whether we can define a topic for each of the proposed half-day sessions. The preliminary idea is to invite half of the speakers and select the other half from submitted abstracts. We now ask for ideas on possible half-day session topics for 1, 2 & 3. A potential topic for #1 could be "Software for the Validation of the results of single crystal studies" (This topic is related to the full session on Validation that will be organised for the ACA2001 meeting in Los Angeles). Please communicate your views to all of us (subscibers to this mailing list) by sending them to: ecacomsig@iucr.org Ton Spek (Chairman) -- #=========================================================================== # Prof. Dr. A.L.Spek, Laboratory of Crystal and Structural Chemistry # # Bijvoet Center for Biomolecular Research, Utrecht University. # # (Kruytgebouw, room N801), Padualaan 8, 3584 CH Utrecht, The Netherlands. # # E-mail: a.l.spek@chem.uu.nl http://www.cryst.chem.uu.nl/ # # http://www.cryst.chem.uu.nl/platon/ # # anonymous ftp: xraysoft.chem.uu.nl # # FAX : (31)-30-2533940 PHONE : (31)-30-2532538/2533/3902/3502 # #===========================================================================
