msCIF dictionary approved

The following news item has ... been sent to Crystallography News Online:

Crystallographic Information File: The modulated structures CIF dictionary
(msCIF)</a> version 1.0 has been posted. The msCIF project has been directed
since 1994 by Gotzon Madariaga of the University of Bilbao. The dictionary
has been designed against the background of the Checklist for the
Description of Incommensurate Modulated Crystal Structures published in
1997 by the Commission on Aperiodic Crystals, and has benefited
from implementation in versions of the JANA software.

The canonical version of the dictionary is available from
    ftp://ftp.iucr.org/pub/cif_ms_1.0.dic

This dictionary was approved by COMCIFS in summer 2001 and has been
available in final form from the IUCr web site since 4 February 2002. I
apologise for the delay in drawing it to your attention.

I congratulate Gotzon and all his co-workers on the dedication and effort
that have gone into producing this dictionary.
